2022 MEAC Basketball Tournament Women’s Bracket Set

Women’s bracket 2022

NORFOLK, Va., March 3, 2022 – The Middle East Athletic Conference (MEAC) has released its women’s pairings for the 2022 MEAC Basketball Tournament, March 9-12 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. Three schools can claim the regular season championship, but the Howard University Bison will be the top seed.

Howard, Norfolk State and Morgan State each went 11-3 en route to being joint regular season MEAC champions, and the three programs split the meetings. The Bison emerged via a tiebreaker off a season sweep of Coppin State, giving them a seed for the second straight season.

Norfolk State and Morgan State went head-to-head 1-1 and had identical records against all other MEAC programs; the Spartans won that tiebreaker via scoring margin against joint conference opponents to take the No. 2 seed.

Morgan State, which won its first MEAC title in the regular season, will be the No. 3 seed.

Coppin State will be the No. 4 seed, with Maryland Eastern Shore, South Carolina State, Central North Carolina and Delaware State occupying seed lines five through eight.

Wednesday’s quarterfinals will see Howard face Delaware State at 12 p.m., followed by Norfolk State against North Carolina Central. On Thursday, Coppin State takes on Maryland Eastern Shore in a 4-5 quarterfinal game, followed by Morgan State with a tilt against South Carolina State.

Friday’s semi-finals will start at 12 p.m.

The 2021-22 regular season champions, All-MEAC first-team winners and other honorees including Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, will be recognized during pre-match presentations prior to the winners’ first matches in the tournament.

The 2022 MEAC Basketball Tournament will begin on Wednesday, March 9 and end on Saturday, March 12 with the men’s and women’s championship games. The quarter-final and semi-final matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The men’s final will begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

The women’s game will start one hour after the men’s game ends live on ESPN+. The contest will air the next day, Sunday, March 13, at 8 a.m. on ESPNU.
