Men’s golf adds Nebraska transfer Tristan Nelko

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton University Men’s Golf Head Coach Judd Cornell announced the addition of Tristan Nelko to the Bluejay program. Nelko has spent the past four seasons as a member of the University of Nebraska golf team, including the 2018-19 campaign when Cornell was assistant coach for the Cornhuskers.

Nelko appeared in 23 total rounds with the Cornhuskers, averaging 76.48 strokes per round, including a career-best 74.17 over six rounds during the recently concluded 2021-22 season.

“I’m confident Tristan has some great golf in him and I think he’ll be a great addition for us,” Cornell said.

Nelko played a career-high 11 rounds as a rookie in 2018-19 before playing in one tournament (three rounds) each in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

His best turn as a Cornhusker came last October, when he finished with a 1 under 71 at the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational in Sugar Grove, Illinois. His best result at NU came in April 2019 when he tied for 18and place at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational.

While in Nebraska, Nelko was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll four times and a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team three times. He was also the 2022 recipient of the Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award.

Nelko is from Plymouth, Minnesota where he attended Wayzata High School. He won 9 out of 10 tournaments as a senior and won the individual state championship by tying the state record with a two-round total of 139. He was named Minnesota’s Mr. Golf as well as Metro Boys Golfer of the Year after averaging 69.5 strokes as a senior. He also helped Wayzata win the Minnesota Class AAA Tag Team Championship in the state as a junior in 2017.

Guided by Cornell, Creighton finished fourth in the 2022 BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP. CU’s 292.17 point average was the best by a Bluejay team in 20 years and included a victory last October at Stampede at the Creek.
