MU XC is getting ready for Live in Lou Classic

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s cross-country teams will compete in their third meet of the 2021 season on Saturday, October 2 at the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Kentucky

The competition will start at 8:30 a.m. CT with the men’s 8 km race, the women’s 5 km race will follow. The meeting will take place at the EP Tom Sawyer Park.

This will be Marquette’s eighth appearance at the Live in Lou Classic, the first time since 2019. In 2019, the men from MU were sixth and the women were fifth at Louisville.


At the last MU meeting hosted by Illinois State University at Weibring Golf Club on September 17, the women took sixth place and the men finished in seventh place.

In the women’s 6 km race, Kate jochims recorded his second top-25 of the year placing 22nd. Junior Kendall Pfrimmer did not finish far behind, finishing 26th overall. Junior Emilie Noone finished 58th overall. Laurel Moneysmith (22: 27.2) and Mallory Lafever (23: 12.1) set new personal bests and finished 36th and 68th respectively, completing Marquette’s top five runners.

Marissa valentini (23: 41.7), Audrey Grimm (24: 10.6), Lexi keppler (25: 22.8), and Gretchen Pfeiffer (27: 13.0) all set personal bests at the Redbird Invite.

First-year student Dan Weizeorick beat the Golden Eagles by placing 34th overall and setting a new personal best with a time of 25: 37.3. Patrick hetlage, in his first race after a long hiatus due to injury, also set a new personal best with a time of 25: 42.0 to take 41st place. David Zeller finished two places behind Hetlage to finish 43rd. Jordan janusiak shortly thereafter to finish fourth for the MU men and 48th overall.

August Beyer (51st), Zak Kindl (59th), and Jadon Conroy (64th) completed the top seven for Marquette.


First-year student Dan Weizeorick: “There are going to be a lot of good teams out there, and I’ve heard that the course is very fast. I hope we can all get our best times so far and that should be a lot of fun.”

Senior Zak Kindl: “As a team I think we did a great job last time working together and running together. I thought we had a good pack mentality. The guys are running well.”

Following Saturday’s game, the Golden Eagles will travel to Peoria, Ill., To compete in the Bradley “Pink” Classic at Newman Golf Course on Friday, October 15.
