Oxford’s Merton College Choir on tour of the United States this fall
Oxford’s Merton College Choir are set to tour the entire east coast this fall.
The Ensemble will open its tour on September 11, 2022 at Harvard University Memorial Church in Cambridge, MA. There will be a second concert at the same place a day later. Then on September 13, the band will perform at Trinity Church on the Green in New Haven, CT.
Then it’s time for New York and New Jersey. On September 15 there will be a performance at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York; this performance will also be broadcast live. A day later, the tour ends at the Princeton University Chapel in New Jersey.
Benjamin Nicholas will conduct a program featuring music by Vaughan Williams, Lionell Rogg, Judith Weir, Byrd, Purcell, David Lang, Nico Muhly, William Harry, Parry and Duruflé.
“Touring is very important to us on so many levels,” music director Benjamin Nicholas said in an official press release. “Our university terms are quite short, so working together in a focused way outside of these three eight-week periods is invaluable to the musical development of the choir. It is also extremely important socially for this age group. I think any of our choir specialists would say touring is one of the perks of being in a college choir. We have missed it immensely since our last tour in December 2018. The new generation of Merton singers, who joined us in the fall of 2019, have never toured as a band. This makes this trip to the United States doubly important.
