Teacher arrests student accused of stabbing California high school

TURLOCK, Calif. (KCRA) – A California high school teacher helped subdue a student who was allegedly involved in a stabbing on campus, ending an altercation that injured another student.

Ryan Tribble has been a psychology teacher at Turlock High School for over 17 years. Just before 9 a.m. on Friday, he was seeing his students from a class period when he was alerted to a fight near his classroom.

When he arrived at the scene, Tribble said one of his students was attacking another with a knife. The teacher said he was not afraid. He just knew he needed help.

“When I got up to the young man and looked at him a bit and let him know, ‘Hey, hey, how are you, man,’ Tribble said.“ He just looked like a kid. scared and angry, just a kid, you know. “

The teacher put his hands on the suspect’s shoulders and tried to reach him. His actions stopped the teenager in his tracks and ended the altercation. Police say the stabbed student is expected to recover.

Tribble says his actions are the kind of thing teachers do every day.

“Just a little bit, you know, you show these kids love and kindness, and I’ve always found that they give it back,” he said. “I think that’s what we should be doing as teachers. We really put our children first.

Tribble is still dealing with Friday’s incident and knows the campus community will need to heal. He encourages students to talk about their feelings with their family, friends or counselors. He says it will also provide a space where students can discuss the incident as a group.

“I have a pretty good relationship with most of my students. I think they’ll be open enough to be vulnerable and share, ”Tribble said.

Officers are investigating the relationship between the two students involved in the stabbing and what led to it.
