Working in Clark County: Melissa Fox, Gold Star Tutoring

“We all want the best for our students when it comes to their math and language foundations,” Fox said. “These foundations result in more confidence in how they present themselves in school. Students who are confident in the classroom can really follow their own passions later in life.”

Fox’s passion for tutoring began while she was still a student. She accepted teacher’s assistant and tutoring opportunities for lower-level math courses as a high school student, then attended Washington State University in Vancouver. After graduating, Fox founded Gold Star Tutoring in 2009.

What started as a solo operation has since grown into a team of multiple teachers and locations at La Center, Battle Ground, Ridgefield and Salmon Creek. Fox hopes to open a new Woodland location by 2023.

In the future, she plans to take Gold Star nationwide by creating online video lessons.

“My favorite part of my job is seeing the massive growth in confidence our students achieve over time,” Fox said. “I gave private lessons to many students, from primary to final year. Seeing them walk across the stage at graduation makes my heart race. »
